People always ask what tools I use to make my leather goods… and honestly, they’re nothing fancy. No big machines, no shortcuts. Just heritage tools, the kind that have been around for generations, and the traditional skills to use them.
I cut, shape, and hand stitch every piece the old-fashioned way.   Some days I’m making new, functional, hard-wearing goods that’ll serve for years. Other days I’m restoring much-loved pieces so they can carry on for the next generation.

Today marks 80 years since VE Day—Victory in Europe—and we’re reflecting not just on the courage of those who served, but also on the quiet utility of the craftspeople who kept them equipped.

This clever English military saddler’s clam is a perfect example. Designed for mobility, its lower “leg” folds up into the top half, making it compact and easy to carry. Saddlers in the British military would have used clamps like this in field tents and mobile workshops, keeping kit and cavalry gear stitched and serviceable under pressure.
🪖 These tools weren’t glamorous—but they were essential. From reins to rifle slings, a saddler’s steady hands helped keep the war effort moving.
