There’s nothing quite like walking through York and seeing long, white-bearded men in full Viking gear eating sandwiches in a cafe, or a Viking lady making a call on her mobile phone. The clash of eras is a quirky norm for us locals!
Did you know? Vikings were masters of durable leathercraft long before the days of saddle stitching. They used techniques like running stitches and edge-flesh stitches for their shoes, belts, pouches, and other functional items—stitching methods designed to stand the test of time.
I love exploring the rich history of leatherwork, even from the Viking Age, and celebrating its development over time. 🪓. [I took this photo in the famous Holy Trinity Church Viking market where my distant relatives when to church and where Anne Lister took sacrament with Ann Walker to seal their union. 🌈 ]
